European Commission -Speech [Check Against Delivery] Speech by Executive Vice-President Ribera at the Forum Europa Brussels Breakfast Brussels, 20 January 2025 Ladies and gentlemen, It is a privilege to address you today in a different setting. It is a different setting, but I feel at home because this is the type of event that Nueva Economia Forum has been doing for a while back in Spain. I remember this forum in Madrid, and I am delighted to address you in Brussels at this time. This forum remains a valuable opportunity to exchange views, share ideas, and hear directly from the industry, the expert, the media on the challenges and opportunities we face together. Now, more than ever, we find ourselves at a global turning point facing challenges that sometimes may make us feel overwhelmed. Recent shifts in global leadership and dynamics in different contexts in the geopolitical arena have added a sense of uncertainty. Yet, it is in these moments of uncertainty when we have to hold onto what make us strong. It is time again to remind us that our core values of trust, continuity, cooperation, reliability, respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, and dialogue are a must for Europeans. It may be particularly difficult, but we build opportunities on those values. Businesses and economies thrive on predictability and reliability. Societies rely on a better future.
